TODAY Hue is a bustling small city nestled at central Vietnam’s narrowest point. The ruins of the Nguyen dynasty are still largely intact despite suffering the ravages of two wars. The first was during 1945 when the nation was split in two with the northern end becoming communist. The second being when Hue was heavily bombed in the 1968 Tet offensive.
Somehow many of the ruins have survived the two wars and the city remains a vibrant coastal town in the middle of Vietnam. Although the capital has moved back to Hanoi, Hue has preserved the remains of its legacy from Vietnam’s last dynasty.
