A COUPLE of months before this shot was taken a large bushfire had completely engulfed the Chermside Hills reserve on Brisbane's northside.
I was surprise with how quickly the vegetation has regenerated. The trunks of the trees were still black from having been burnt in the bushfire, but everything else had sprouted green looking healthier than ever.
Fire is a part of the process of the lifecycle of Australia's eucalypt forests. The fires burn away all the dead material and rubbish to clear the way for new life to spring forth. The seeds of many gum tree species will remain dormant and can only germinate when burnt in a bushfire.
