WE WERE three years into the drought that had no end in sight. The last significant rain here had been in January 2001. The water supply dams were running a lot lower than usual. The lake level that had almost been up to the trees a few years ago had dropped a long way leaving large grassy banks to the gradually dropping waterline. |
