AS RAIN clouds threatened the towering trumpet pitcher plants stood high ready to receive some of the water to fill their long hollow trunks to attract all manner of flying animal to feed on.

These plants have evolved this unique feeding system due to the nutrient-poor swampy soil in which they grow.
