HAVING arrived in Japan on my first trip outside Australasia, I was keen to do some exploring. I joined a tour group on a day trip around central Hokkaido.
It was the middle of the short summer. For much of the year the entire island is covered in a thick blanket of snow. At this time of year the land springs to life with bright colours. Here at Farm Tomita, many varieties of flowers are grown. Rows of different varieties provide an intense rainbow of colour. across the fields. The air is filled with the smell of lavender effervescing from nearby fields.
