HAVING spent several days in the remote and rugged Stewart Island it was a culture shock for me to be flying back home with three flights to catch.
The first flight was in what could best be described as a VW combie van with wings, where I was privileged to sit in the cockpit with the pilot. This leg took me across the notorious Foveaux Strait, one of the most treacherous stretches of water in the world, to Invercargill. The second flight from Invercargill to Christchurch, then the third one across the Tasman back home to Brisbane.
The Tasman Sea seldom disappoints with its amazing cloud formations drifting across the sea from Australia to New Zealand where they pick up a lot of moisture to create New Zealand's very wet climate.
