THIS WAS the longest day of my life.
I left home shortly after sunrise to catch a plane from Brisbane to Auckland, then connect a few hours later to another flight across the South Pacific Ocean to Santiago. The sky darkened shortly after leaving Auckland, but it was not long afterwards when we crossed the International Date Line losing a day.
Following a long night crossing some of the most remote and hostile ocean on the planet, the sky lightened and the plane arrived in Santiago in the late morning.
From here I had an eight hour layover to catch another plane to my final destination Lima arriving in the late evening. Unfortunately the flight was cancelled. After quite some confusion and meeting four people who were in my group to do the Inca Trail, we were eventually taken through customs and out into Santiago arriving at a very nice hotel just before midnight. It had been a very long day - 29 hours.
Here I am having dinner in Santiago Airport.
