IT DAWNED a muggy morning deep in the Peruvian Amazon. Following a cruise along the river in a longboat and a hike through the jungle I reached a placid oxbow lake.
The sun had risen turning the hazy sky orange. The lake was perfectly still, but I knew that as inviting as it was, danger lurked in its depths.
The depths were infested with piranhas, caimans and giant carnivorous otters. There may have even been giant anacondas lurking unseen in the shallows...
