SEVERAL guides led me high up a steep mist shrouded mountain into the second largest jungle on Earth, just a few kilometres away from the border to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Here tourists have been kidnapped and murdered so one of the guides carries an AK-47. The others carry machetes which they use to cut a path through the dense forest foliage. I was armed only with my camera.
It was not long before I saw the peaceful family of gorillas munching away at the dense foliage. They were only a few metres away. Only the large male was clearly visible. His women and children were hidden beneath the undergrowth.
In the midst of such a dangerous area, the gorillas ate away without a care in the world. They were at home here in this remote mountain jungle wilderness.
