A TOTAL solar eclipse went over the Cairns area. The eclipse was partial in Brisbane 1700 kilometres down the coast.
The sky began to darken not long after sunrise. The colours became stronger and the brightness gradually reduced as if I was seeing everything through a circular polariser. The darkness of the sky became quite eerie. The birds stopped singing as the sun became increasingly covered by the moon.
Eventually the moon started clearing away from the sun restoring the light back to normality.
