DURING the 1930s an injured crimson rosella at O'Reillys was nursed back to health following a wing injury. The story goes that once set free, the staff would continue to feed it each day. It was not long before it let all the other local parrots know about the food supply.
Eighty years on the parrots continue to be fed daily. They come from all corners of the subtropical jungles of the Lamington Plateau to feed.
This is one of the many king parrots that gather with the crimson rosellas in anticipation of feeding time. The worst of winter is now over and it is now breeding season, so the birds are hungry.
