ANOTHER day on the river was broken by a walk through the remote forest across the most rugged terrain to the Bridge to Nowhere.
The bridge was constructed along a road that was to link the central plateau volcanoes with Taranaki. Several farmers attempted to settle in the area and the bridge was built, but all the farmers had abandoned their blocks of land before the bridge was completed. The road project was subsequently abandoned and the bridge was never used, left standing across a gaping chasm deep in the forest in the middle of nowhere.
