ARRIVING in Dandong in the early morning in thick fog, we briefly explored the city centre before going through Chinese immigration to leave the country and catch the train over a rickety steel bridge across the Yalu River into North Korea.

Upon reaching Sinuiju on the other side of the river, we passed through the rather rigorour immigration and quarantine procedure whilst still aboard the crowded train. Once procedures were complete the train continued along the remaining 300 kilometre of the 1364 kilometre journey between Beiking and Pyongyang. Here I have just arrived at Pyongyang Station.

From here our group met our local Korean guides who conducted a brief tour around the city centre before settling us into the Yanggakdo International Hotel. It stood tall on a small island in the middle of the river passing through the middle of the city.
