JUST after midnight the full moon was at its closest to Earth in 68 years, producing a slightly bigger than normal annual supermoon.
Despite being relatively low in the sky (winter supermoons are brighter from these latitudes) and the closely approaching summer, the sky was surprisingly clean this morning, allowing me to get this crystal clear image with my 500mm lens.
Being a full moon there was very little definition due to the lack of shadows. The sun was almost directly behind the Earth making all the features appear rather flat. Despite that the edge of the moon disc is slightly serrated showing the large mountains on its horizon.
