THE BOOKINGS for the Milford Track opened in April last year, and when I had made my booking just two days later, nearly all the places for the season had already been booked. Fortunately I secured a place and finally after ten months I was on the track.
Following a cruise up the northern half of Lake Te Anau to the start of the track at Glade Wharf, a rather chaotic crowd of mostly guided walkers left the boat/ Somehow though I managed to pose here in front of the entrance sign, swapping cameras with an independent hiker couple I would get to know very well during this four day adventure along the world famous Milford Track.
I have been to Milford Sound twice before by road, but this time around I was going to do the pilgrimage properly, trekking through the remote wilderness of Fiordland. Today was just a short hour and a half up the river along very well graded track to the Clinton Hut.
