EXPLORING the smallest of the inhabited islands at the bottom of Moreton Bay, the afternoon was very humid in anticipation of expected rain that never eventuated.
Although the sleepy island has quite a few houses, there is one large mangrove wetland to the south where a rough track followed the top of a sand bank passing the wrecks of two boats that had succumbed to one of the frequent storms of recent years. One boat was partially submerged a good hundred metres offshore whilst the boat I'm standing on had been carried into the mangroves suffering serious damage as the storm had rammed it in between the trees.
