SOON to be converted into a department store, the old treasury building was constructed in 1886, with extensions added 1892 and 1928. Originally occupied by the Queensland Government, it was from here the proclamation of the federation of Australia was read out on New Years day 1901. It remained a government building until being converted to a casino in 1995.
It now stands as a historic building near the river standing firm amongst the surrounding imposing high rises towering above the streets from which the workers flow out of in the rush to head home or socialise on this mild Friday night.
