A YEAR ago I snapped a picture of an ice moonbow with a very thin layer of cirrus haze on the tropospause creating a spectacular moonbow around the nearby Mars.

Tonight there was a similar phenomenon caused by a very thin layer of cirrostratus cloud at around half the altitude at 6000 metres. This time the ring captured Jupiter (the brightest light down and left of the moon) and the flashing light of a passing aircraft.

The faint cloud was quite chunky creating irregularities and a few very faint concentric circles in tonight's moonbow.
