STARTING from Woorim in the late afternoon I headed up the exposed east coast of Bribie Island towards the camping ground.
The beach was unbroken with scrubby bush on one side and the breaking sea on the other, with the occasional lagoon every few kilometres.
I rested at Mermaid Lagoon just as the sun set. Mostly sheltered from the prevailing south east trade wind, the surface of the lagoon was heavily rippled under the layers of cloud sweeping across the darkening sky.
