HEADING across the bay back to the pristine Moreton Island for the first time in nearly ten years. I used to come here often back in the days before travelling overseas.
Upon my arrival at Tangalooma Wrecks, I set up camp and headed to the beach sitting on a small dune with spinnifex grass growing on it to watch the sunset over the rusting remains of the ships that once supported the local whaling industry on the island. This is one of the few places along Australia's east coast where you can see the sun set over the sea.
Although Brisbane was just on the other side of the bay, the distance was just enough to almost completely conceal the city from the view. If you didn't know what you were looking for, you wouldn't even know there was a major city just a few tens of kilometres offshore.
