RETURNING to the Gateway Bridge in the very early morning, I followed the walkway along the side of the newer bridge up to its summit.
There are a few small viewing platforms, including this one at the bridge's highest point over the middle of the river. The otherwise spectacular view was almost completely blocked off by a high wall of thick mesh wiring one would only expect in a maximum security prison. Apparently this has been installed to prevent people from jumping off the bridge to certain death.
At each lookout was a small perspex window that had obviously never been cleaned, dirtier than the windows of a North Korean hotel. This prevented me getting any good shots of the river at dawn, but I did capture this shot of the walkway and the summit viewing platform in the early dawn.
