FROM Amity Point, I hiked across the top of North Stradbroke Island arounding a couple of points before crossing the sweeping Flinders Beach against a strong easterly wind before reaching the volcanic headlands holding the entire island together.

Here the beaches were a lot smaller (with a lot more character) and the headlands rugged. Fortunately there were rough tracks I could negotiate the headlands over. The last of these headlands was the famous Stradbroke Gorge Walk with its newly replaced boardwalk clinging to the spectacular cliffs.

Towards the end of the boardwalk, I had a clear view along the North Stradbroke Main Beach which sweeps southward continuously all the way into and through the Gold Coast. The beach is broken only by two channels, one at either end of South Stradbroke Island.

Normally this end of the beach has a lot of surfers, but it was closed due to the big swell generated by today's strong wind. The low angle of the late afternoon sun beautifully captured the energy of the incoming waves sweeping onto the beach.
