WELL GOOD morning. It is significantly colder this morning. Ice has formed on all these railings and on the ground. It is about 6:30 in the morning and we have passed a lot of icebergs. If we come out this side here you'll be able to see a lot of icebergs out on the horizon. It is very very cold this morning so I'm going to head back inside and head to the bridge for a little while to see where we are. We would be very well on our way to the Antarctic Circle, aiming at this stage to get there around 10:00 this morning.

We are very close to the Antarctic Circle now and everyone is getting up on deck with a little party going on here. There is a lot of ice going past now as we head to the circle.

OK about three minutes to go. 66 degrees 33 minutes south. To put that into perspective, that's almost 40 degrees south of where I live in Brisbane and about 20 degrees south of the bottom of New Zealand.

We've made the Antarctic Circle. We didn't get the horn. It actually froze over but now we're in the Antarctic. Now to get my mugshot beside the sign and we're all good. Cheers.

Well we're inside the Antarctic Circle now, and there is a pretty big party going on. I would have never expected there be a massive party this far away from anywhere, but so be it.

From here we're going to continue further south now and we'll see how far we go. Not many of these cruises go this far south as most ships just cover the northern end of the peninsula and also South Georgia. Not many people have therefore been this far so I'm very priveliged to be one of the few who have amongst the other 198 people here so maybe only 1000 people a year get this far south. So this is really awesome, an amazing thing to kick off the bucket list today.

It's almost midday and we've dropped anchor for the afternoon, probably exploring the area. It's almost the equinox and it's interesting the sun is quite low in the sky because we're so far south. At this time of year the sun would only be about 25 degrees above the horizon even though it's midday. It's not much above what it is in the South Island in the middle of winter and it's certainly a lot lower than any time of year where I live. I can actually feel the sun, and the ice on the deck here is starting to melt. But it wouldn't be many degrees above zero here and this is as much as the sea ice is ever going to melt before it freezes over again in winter. This is an extremely cold place, but it is nice out here in the sun here at the Antarctic Circle.
