WELL TODAY we're a bit further up the coast and we're at one of the gentoo penguin colonies. Obviously they are completely used to us and have no fear allowing us to sit amongst them so we can sit around them and photograph them living their lives. It is a beautifully fine day today. We're having three stops today, this being our first one on a little island about 65 degrees south. I've just been out kayaking again in amongst humpback whales which is pretty amazing. So I'm just going to sit back and enjoy some of these penguins. Here's one walking past right now. OK time to do some photography I think.

Here's one penguin less than two metres away. They are very inquisitive.

This is the largest penguin colony on the entire peninsula. It extends quite a large distance either way. It is amazing how inquisitive they are. It is a very peaceful place out here as well. There are a lot of icebergs offshore and spectacular mountains in behind. Over the ridge is the main channel which is about five or six hundred metres deep where I was kayaking earlier. It's a beautiful place.

There is some ice breaking off the top of the mountain creating avalanches. It's quite a big problem here especially at this time of year when it's relatively warm. For that reason we are elevated quite a few metres above the water. Part of the glacier could collapse at any time creating quite a big tsunami so we have to stay quite a bit above the water here. Although these avalanches here are not going to affect us, they are a reminder of how serious the ice condition is here.

It's currently sunset and we are passing Brown Base, an Argentine owned base here. There are people working here and they are exercising at the moment by the looks of it.

The sun is setting now. This place is called Paradise Bay, well named. Here ends another spectacular day out here on the Antarctic Peninsula.
