WELL it is quite a cold morning. As you can see there is quite a lot of snow up on the mountains which isn’t surprising. It is about 3 or 4 degrees and not likely to get any more than 8 degrees today. But this marks the start of the road which I will be following and from here I’ll continue further up through South America initially towards Santiago but eventually I’ll reach the other end of this road up in Alaska somewhere in a few years’ time in subsequent trips. It’s quite a long way to go, about 20,000 to 30,000 kilometres. Today marks the start of a very exciting adventure through the Americas.

Well that’s enough relaxing for now. You can see there is still snow on the mountains, quite a fresh layer like when I first came here. It was already starting to melt then but today’s is a nice fresh layer of snow. Fortunately, we’re heading north and this is actually the vehicle we’re going to be travelling in. I’m just about to go in for the group meeting for the tour going all the way from here in Ushuaia up to Santiago which is a good 3000 kilometres away. We’re going to be heading up through the Andes, up through Patagonia criss-crossing between Chile and Argentina. We’ll be doing all the border crossings by land. It’s going to be a very interesting little trip. I’m going to try out this company here and if I like them, I’ll keep going with them as they go all the way up to Alaska. That fits in well because that’s exactly what I want to do heading up through the Americas. So, let’s see how this goes. Anyway, I’d better go in to the tour briefing now, and I hear we’re going to be setting off very early tomorrow morning. It will be great to meet the new team I’ll be travelling with and get an idea of what’s going on.

Well it’s great meeting a new group and the people all seem to be absolutely awesome by the looks of it. There’s quite a big wide range of age from early 20s through to probably 70s. Quite a few of them have just finished university and are doing gap years. Most have actually been travelling for a fair while around South America so my seven-week trip actually looks quite short compared to them. But anyway, I’ve got to make sure everything is set up for tomorrow because we are leaving really early. So, I need to make sure everything is ready to go. They are a really interesting group. Funny one of the ladies there lives only about two suburbs away from me. So much for travelling around the other side of the world. Amazing.
