GOOD Morning. I’m in the truck which I’m travelling on all the way up to Santiago. We left Ushuaia a couple of hours ago and heading up at around Rio Grande. Actually, we’re crossing the river now. This afternoon we are crossing the border heading back into Chile and heading on to the Strait of Magellan.

Well today we’re crossed over into Chile and now in the top of Tierra del Fuego and the low end of the Strait of Magellan. Just out there is a group of king penguins. This is a private reserve not far from where we catch the ferry across to the South American mainland. This is the only colony on South America so I’m hoping to get some really good pictures of them. Here it is only about eleven degrees but back in Ushuaia it is freezing. Anyway, I’m going to take a few pictures of these amazing creatures before we head on over to the other side into the South American mainland and continue our journey to find a campsite for the night.

Well I’m just about to get onto the ferry out here to cross the Strait of Magellan at I think it’s narrowest point. We need to walk onto the boat so it’s pretty windy out here. These are the last few moments I have here on Tierra del Fuego before heading across to the South American mainland.

OK we’re on the ferry now. All the passengers are here in this narrow room with the kitchen up here. I think most of the cars and trucks are on board as well out these windows. It’s a pretty nice calm crossing by the looks of it. This is the Strait of Magellan which separates Tierra del Fuego from the South American mainland. I think it takes about half an hour to get across so in half an hour we’ll be on the South American mainland starting our long journey on land up to Santiago. So obviously there’s quite a few days to hang around Patagonia. In the mean time we’ll sit back and relax in this calm crossing of the Strait of Magellan.

OK I’ve made it onto the South American mainland. We’re off the ferry, and now looking for a campsite some distance away from here, probably a good hour and a half away (near Punta Arenas) and we’ll settle there for tonight. Hopefully it won’t be too windy up there. So, there we are. We’ve crossed the Strait of Magellan; I think the flat side of the strait but the Strait of Magellan nonetheless.

Well we’ve made it to our camping ground just before sunset and we’re just in the process of setting up our campsite. It’s nearly done now and there is a beautiful sunset here. So, it’s about dinner time and we’re settling in cooking dinner. Tomorrow we have a huge, huge day travelling by road, so we’ll need to head to bed soon. Anyway, time for dinner.
