THE MORNING dawned perfectly still and clear. I have not been kayaking for a long time with being away every fine weekend day in recent times, and only being at home when the weather was bad. I took this opportunity to take the kayak up to Forgan Cove and have a long paddle on the lake.
Setting off from the cove, I headed up the first point, paddling into the channel where a stream had once flowed along the bottom of before the lake was created in 1976. After heading a short distance I crossed over to the other side and headed around the long point into the next cove where several other kayakers were exploring. This was a small cove so I crossed its entrance to head into the next long channel.
I passed several places where I have hiked in the past, but it was great seeing it from the water. Here I was testing out the camera and gopros in the excellent morning light. I paddled quite a way up the channel as it gradually narrowed. At some point I turned back and headed along the other bank to round the next headland in territory I have not explored before. From here I could see into the following channel.
From here I turned back cutting across the mouths of the channels back to Forgan Cove, having paddled about six kilometres on the lake.
