I STARTED in Indooroopilly at first light and headed to the Jack Pesch Bridge crossing Brisbane River from where I had a clear view downstream to watch the almost cloudless sunrise.

Once the sun was over the horizon, I started making my way downstream towards Dutton Park Station. The start and end points of this walk were the same as last weekend's hike, but doing it in reverse, and hiking the south bank of the river. Last weekend's walk was along the north bank of the river.

Once across the river, I followed a few streets and short parks downstream before reaching the long Graceville River Park and walkway path running a couple of kilometres along the riverbank. The river was mirror smooth in the still humid air as the sun quickly rose in the sky. Large trees gave heaps of shelter as I followed the path, reaching the end of the park at Oxley Creek. Here the path crossed under the road bridge and joined a footpath heading about a kilometre before reaching the Queensland Tennis Centre, where a pathway led through the well landscaped grounds of Ken Fletcher Park.

I stopped at the old Tennyson Power Station, which was shut down in 2006 but some remnant remain in the landscaping, including the building where water was pumped in and out of the river. From here I continued following the park until reaching the new River Cycle Loop, heading from the city upstream on the other side of the river to Indooroopilly crossing the bridge where I had watched the sunrise this morning, then heading downstream on this side of the river back to the city. Needless to say I saw a huge number of cyclists from here onwards as I followed the same route continuing downstream through suburbia and the occasional park.

The route followed several streets through Yeronga to Tilly's Beach Park at the end of the peninsula. Here I stopped for a while before walking through the parkland then following Brisbane Corso Road into Fairfield following the river all the way to Princess Street Park, opposite the South Brisbane Cemetery. From here I followed the path downstream to the Eleanor Schonnell Bridge, and continued along the path up the hill and across to Park Road Station.
