HEADING into the city in the late afternoon, I followed the path upstream along the Brisbane River from Southbank up to the Westend Markets to watch the sunset before heading back downstream under the William Jolly Bridge, and towards the Kurilpa Bridge Bridge under which an old piano was positioned. I was initially tempted to play it, but as I approached it saw it only had three black keys so figured it would be in seriously bad condition.

From the piano I headed up onto Kurilpa Bridge, which I had recently discovered was the world's largest hybrid tensegrity bridge. The structure is held together by a network of cables or wires in tension, which are balanced by rigid struts or beams in compression.

The term "tensegrity" is derived from the words "tensional integrity," which refers to the ability of the structure to maintain its shape and stability through the balanced distribution of tension and compression forces.

As darkness fell over the city, I walked along Southbank passing the new bridge being built to the new buildings now towering quite high above the river. There had also recently been some major renovations along the riverfront.
