Well hello friends. Today I'm coming from the Darwin waterfront just by the port. This morning I flew about four hours from Brisbane across the top of Australia up here to Darwin which is three thousand kilometres from home. I had a really good flight today going across some of the deserts and the Gulf of Carpentaria. There was very interesting scenery the whole way across and quite well looked after.

It was quite funny with our pilot being Captain James Cook. That was quite amusing having him on board. I've now arrived in Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory. I made the goal this year to get to all the states and territories I've not been to yet, so the Northern Territory is a major one I've not yet been to, so here I am exploring this area for a couple of weeks and those buildings there are the city centre which is quite small. It is just a few blocks in a large town. This is a little lagoon cut off from the sea. It is the only place that is safe to swim because of all the dangerous jellyfish and other animals that would kill you out in the sea. It is a nice little lagoon here.

Coming over to the other side here. This is the actual harbour. The wharf on the other side there is quite famous. It was bombed by the Japanese in World War II but has been restored obviously and you'll notice the wharf is very very high. The reason for that is the tidal range is enormous going up to eight metres. The tide now is about three metres above the minimal tide gauge level and can go up to eight metres above that. This is the port.

I've now arrived here in Darwin. It is beautifully fine and warm and at this time of year it stays like this for weeks on end as this is the dry season. Up here they only have two seasons, a wet season and a dry season. It gets very humid during the summer wet season and best to avoid it. Now here in winter it is the warm dry season and perfect weather. Anyway I'm up here exploring here, so thanks friends for joining me today and I'll catch you somewhere else here in Darwin tomorrow. Until then, ciao for now.
