Well good morning friends. Today I'm coming from Waitangi, a short distance from where I've been staying at Paihia. This is a very culturally significant area where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between the Maori people and the European settlers back in the 1830s. Behind me there is the treaty flag. Scanning around, there's a Maori meeting house there, representing all tribes of New Zealand. I've just been in there for a cultural performance and also behind me there is the actual treaty house where the treaty was signed.

It is a beautiful area which I'm exploring today. I was here in 1995 for Waitangi Day then. It was a very long time ago and since then they have built all these very nice museums. I have been spending this morning exploring those. The flag has been here since the 1830s. Beyond over the water is Russell, where I explored the day before yesterday and further beyond some of the islands. It is a beautiful little area here where everything was happening in New Zealand in the 1830s before they moved the capital south. I'm just exploring Waitangi today before heading south again.

Thanks friends for joining me again and I'll catch you somewhere else tomorrow. Until then, ciao for now.
