Riverfire

THE BRISBANE River festival happens every September. The climax of this festival is the Riverfire fireworks which brings in enormous crowds from all over the city.

A couple of hundred metres downstream from the main action at Southbank in front of the Captain Cook Bridge brings the best view of the fireworks. The three barges of fireworks are almost aligned to create the most dramatic visual spectacle with smaller fireworks going off from the high rise glass towers of the central city.

The silhouette in the foreground is the pile of an old pier in this once industrial area. The pier has long been removed but on top of the pier now stands a sculpture of two pelicans created from old metal parts of machinery abandoned here when the area was changed from industrial to parkland.
