Approaching storm

Approaching storm

HIKING along the Bribie Island beach north of Woorim in the early morning, the rising sun shone brightly on the golden sand. The mountainous sand hills of Moreton Island were visible across the other side of the entrance of Moreton Bay. A big storm was blowing eastward south of the beach, the bright sunlight on the beach making the clouds very dark and threatening, but fortunately the rain stayed south of where I was hiking, and quickly cleared.

Washed up along the rugged beach was the remains of the trunk of a tree washed into the ocean by the waves eroding another part of the coast perhaps hundreds of kilometres away.

The brilliant interaction between the rising sun, the storm and the breaking waves made for this dramatic shot.
