Introduction to today's journey

Today's journey heads west to Ballarat where I explore the botanical gardens, a local zoo and head to the historic gold mining village before returning to Melbourne and going up its highest tower at Southbank.

From the gardens we head to the nearby Lake Wendouree, an artificially dammed lake once the town water supply and now a wetland reserve.

From the lake we head across the city to the Ballarat Wildlife Park. This fellow is holding a native wombat.

From the zoo we head to Sovereign Hill, a huge museum of colonial times when a gold rush occurred here.

Returning to the bottom of the building, I continue photographing the river into the evening.
