Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey heads west to Ballarat where I explore the botanical gardens, a local zoo and head to the historic gold mining village before returning to Melbourne and going up its highest tower at Southbank.
Today's Journey
I head westward in the early morning to explore the countryside of Victoria. |
We stop at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens fresh from the overnight rain which has just cleared. |
From the gardens we head to the nearby Lake Wendouree, an artificially dammed lake once the town water supply and now a wetland reserve. |
From the lake we head across the city to the Ballarat Wildlife Park. This fellow is holding a native wombat. |
From the zoo we head to Sovereign Hill, a huge museum of colonial times when a gold rush occurred here. |
Some of the industrial sheds supporting the community. |
A tower over one of the mine shafts on Sovereign Hill. |
A blacksmith at work making horseshoes. |
I return to Melbourne and head up the Eureka Skydeck on the 88th floor of the city's highest building. Here I watch the sunset. |
Returning to the bottom of the building, I continue photographing the river into the evening. |
