Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey departs Launceston taking the main highway through the middle of the island down to Hobart. Once settled, I explore the city centre and the waterfront.
Today's Journey
From Launceston I catch a bus running through the middle of the island lowlands to Hobart. |
Upon arriving in Hobart, I explore the city centre. |
A couple of short blocks leads to the waterfront, where numerous boats of character are moored to the wharves extending out into the harbour. |
A tugboat sits moored to the wharf awaiting the next ship to arrive in the harbour. |
An old cargo crane sits retired on the waterfront wharf. |
The port is surrounded by historic buildings having serviced trade here for hundreds of years. |
More boats moored at the wharves in the calm harbour of the sunken Derwent River completely surrounded by hills. |
A seagull sits at the end of an old sailing ship reminiscent of what the waterfront would have looked like 200 years ago. |
A full size replica of Mawson's base in Antarctica. Numerous expeditions set off from here at the Hobart waterfront down into Antarctica. |
I head back into the city centre passing more historic buildings. |
