Introduction to today's journey

Today's journey takes me across town to the Summer Palace, exploring its many buildings beside the lake before heading to Beijing Zoo.

Today's Journey

Heading up the hill from the lake, the temples continue contoured into the hillside.

Exploring the shops and temple at the top of the Summer Palace.

Heading back down the hill, a boat cruises along the river feeding the lake as we cross the Banbi Bridge.

Catching the train in the Beijing Metro system. It is very complex so I'm thankful I have a guide today.

We head to the Beijing Zoo where I see numerous pandas and other wildlife.

From the zoo we head to the Bejing Bell Tower back near the Forbidden City. Here we go up to the level of the bell and see the city centre through the thick haze.

Returning to my accommodation to watch the dim sun set behind Jingshan Park.
