Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey takes me for a walk around Kiev, and exploring the metro system.
Today's Journey
Exploring St Michael's Chapel back in Kiev on my final full day in Europe. |
Passing a mural under the cathedral. |
A closeup of the sky blue cathedral with its golden domes. |
A wooden seat under the Friendship of Nations Arch. |
A bridge crosses above a main road as the trail continues along the top of the hill. |
Termen Fountain in Markinsky Park at the top of the hill. The trees are changing colour with the onset of autumn. |
Descending 105 metres into Arsenalna Station, officially the deepest metro station in the world (though not as deep as the Pyongyang Metro being at least 110 metres underground). |
Exploring more parkland as rain falls over Kiev. |
Back in Independence Square listing most capital cities of the world and their distance. The most distant destinations are Canberra and Wellington at 14,887km and 17,089 kilometres away respectively. New Zealand in particular was attractive to those escaping the radiation of Chernobyl in the late 1980s as it was as far away as they could go. |
The rain clears at sunset as a rainbow crosses over the Independence Monument. |
