Introduction to today's journey

Today's journey continues north passing Totaranui Beach and crossing the Anapai Headlands to the rugged northern beaches. Eventually I reach Separation Point before turning into Golden Bay and descending to Whariwharangi Hut. After a break I return across to Mutton Cove and return along the coast to Anapai Bay Camping Ground.

Today's Journey

Setting off early in the morning, I cross the headland at the northern end of Waiharakeke Bay and cross Goat Bay. In the distance is Totaranui Beach and Anapai Headlands.

Returning to the main track, I reach Anapai Bay. Here I set up camp and rest for a while before exploring the northern bays.

After briefly reaching Separation Point, I continue along the northern coast a short distance into Golden Bay before the track descends to Whariwharangi Beach. A short distance in from the beach is the historic Whariwharangi Hut, an old farming homestead.

From Whariwharangi I follow a track directly over the hills returning to Anakakapau Bay, passing its spectacular headlands before crossing them back to Anapai Bay.
