Introduction to today's journey

Today's journey takes us into the entrance of Beagle Channel where a pilot guides us along the notorious waterway between Chile and Argentina until we eventually dock in Ushuaia around sunset. We stay on the ship overnight.

Today's Journey

One of several albatrosses flying with the ship as the southernmost islands of South America comes into view.

Passing the headlands of Cape Horn (in the distance) where the Pacific, Atlantic and Southern Oceans meet. The sea is surprisingly calm given this is one of the most notorious stretches of ocean in the world. The storm would be raging further south now, but doesn't reach these latitudes yet.

The albatrosses follow us along the channel as the wind begins to pick up.

Sailing towards the flat topped Picton Island as we head up the channel. Martial Range behind Ushuaia is now just visible in the distance.

Ushuaia in view in the late afternoon under overcast skies as conditions out in the open sea roughen.

Passing the mountains now with little snow and forest rising a couple of hundred metres up their sides. This is the first green vegetation I have seen since last in the channel.

Docking at the wharf back in civilisation shortly before sunset. We will stay on board overnight as we have arrived ahead of schedule escaping the storm.
