Day 10 - Canal at the rivermouth

Day 10 - Canal at the rivermouth

This week in South East Queensland

THE SPRING equinox occurs this week. This is when the day and night are the same length, marking the end of the shorter days of winter and the start of the longer days of summer. At these latitudes there isn't a great deal of difference in daylight between summer and winter but it is significant. The weather is still cool during the equinox, but the long subtropical summer is quickly drawing near.

Today's hike begins at the mouth of the Maroochy River, heading down Maroochydore and Mooloolaba beaches to the mouth of the Mooloolah River. From there I take a long detour around the canal estates of the Mooloolah River before finding a bridge and heading down the other side to Point Cartwright for the sunset. From there I head further along the beach towards Caloundra.
