Introduction to today's journey

USHUAIA is wedged in between the Beagle Channel and the Martial Mountains, creating a relatively sheltered microclimate in this otherwise hostile climate. The lower slopes of the snowcapped mountains are covered in beech forest descended from the ancient beeches of Gondwanaland.

Today's journey returns through Ushuaia heading up the hill towards Martial Glacier before exploring a boggy plateau under the mountains.
