THE RAINFOREST along the Border Ranges Trail was showing obvious signs of new life following the recent start to the summer rains. A few showers had fallen earlier this morning adding to the freshness of the still muggy air carrying the squawks of distant parrots.
After a couple of kilometres, the trail leading towards Dave's Creek Circuit branched off and descended into a mysterious cold gully containing Antarctic Beech not otherwise found anywhere at this altitude. This was followed by dense tree fern foliage amongst the headwaters of a small stream before ascending to scrub at the top of a vast cliff overlooking the Numinbah Valley far below.
In this shot I'm at the first of several lookouts at the edge of the three hundred metre high cliff overlooking a hidden plateau of rainforest, then the Numinbah Valley with the Springbrook Mountains on the other side. Upon leaving this lookout cloud enveloped the slopes and rain began falling until we were back in the rainforest.
