AN EXTENSIVE shared bike and walking trail has been set up around the rugged granite hills of Kaiteriteri in recent years largely by volunteers wanting to adapt the area for the cycling trend which includes a track around the entire country.
With views between the trees of the sweeping tides going into the sand flats of Tapu Bay and of the regenerating forest, the main track meanders its way uphill towards the top of the ridge before meandering down the other side to a little cycle course before reaching the village of Kaiteriteri nestled on the sandbar between pristine headlands.
The bikeway has apparently been voted as one of the top three in the world.
