Well hello friends. Today I'm about two hundred kilometres north of Sydney at Newcastle. Now I'm standing on top of the Nobby's Point lookout just by the lighthouse. This is the entrance to the Hunter River, it is one of the biggest rivers on the east coast of Australia. I think it is the second biggest only to the Brisbane River. Upstream is a big port servicing this big industrial city. It is a satellite city of Sydney. There is a lot of industry happening around here, including a lot of mining, smelting and manufacturing. Just through there is the city of Newcastle. It is very different to last time I came here back in 1998. I think at the time it was still recovering from the 1989 earthquake. That caused a lot of damage here but there haven't been many earthquakes since.

I'm in Newcastle today. I actually explored a few towns on the way up here travelling by train. I have walked along the foreshore past the city to here, and I'll go a bit further up to the end of the rock wall. Then I'll head back into the city centre and explore that for a while.

I'm only here for the day, but I'm looking at coming up here for about a week at some stage in the future but it's just a day trip today and from here I'll walk back through the city centre to the train station and back to Sydney. It's a nice way to spend my last full day on this trip before heading home tomorrow.

thanks friends for joining me again today. I'll catch you again somewhere else on my final day back in Sydney, so until then, ciao for now.
