Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey returns to the river at Arrowtown before exploring the spectacular museum. From here I take a bus to Queenstown, where I explore the town centre as the weather gradually clears.
Today's Journey
I awake to an overcast morning in Arrowtown and continue exploring the historic town centre. |
Some of the workers cottages along one of the streets with the exotic trees planted as seedlings during the gold rush now towering high overhead. |
Inside the spectacular Lakes District Museum with many artefacts from the gold rush days. |
I head back towards the river where some of the huts of the Chinese miners still remain. The standard of living down here was a lot tougher than it was up in the town. |
Reaching the Arrow River swiftly flowing down the valley carrying the gold laden gravel. |
From Arrowtown I head across the hills to Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand. |
On the shore of Lake Wakatipu as the cloud starts to clear. Seagulls forage the tiny breaking waves. |
Watching the sunset from the edge of the lake. The sun has already disappeared behind the dramatic mountains. |
The port comes to life at night as the cloud continues clearing from the cold sky. |
Queenstown has a very busy night life with the numerous tourists swarming this bustling town. |
