Introduction to today's journey

CONSIDERED one of the most notorious stretches of ocean in the world, the legendary Drake Passage is the shortest sea route between Antarctica and any other landmass. Here the world's strongest ocean current and harshest winds funnel between the mountains of South America and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Today's journey heads out of the Beagle Channel in the early hours of the morning to the rough seas of the Drake Passage, causing the ship to roll substantially as it passes Cape Horn. From there it heads southward across the Drake Passage heading towards the Antarctic Peninsula.
