Introduction to today's journey

MANHATTAN Island has not always been the famously frenetic city. This mass of very hard rock remained resistant to the mile high glacier which once sat in the Hudson River during the last ice age. Initially used as a farm by a couple of the earliest European Settlers, it was a peaceful island before its potential as North America's primary port and point of entry was realised. From there, New York was founded and the rest is history. Within the chaos of the city is the surpisingly large Central Park, a quiet refuge left as a reminder of the quiet Manhattan Island before civilisation took over.

Today I arrive in JFK Aiport, the main gateway to New York. From there I take the subway into the city, exploring Upper Manhattan and spending much of the day discovering the amazing Central Park.
