Introduction to today's journey
WHEN THE great depression hit in 1929, the economy suffered very badly, yet the money was found to build towering skyscrapers that would forever change the New York skyline. Amongst these buildings was the Empire State Building, towering high above the rest and built in a surprisingly short amount of time. The top of the building was designed as a port for the helium filled airships which would dock to take passengers. To this day the Empire State Building stands as an impressive tower on the New York skyline.
Today's journey starts at the chaotic Times Square, before heading to the public library and the Chrysler Building as the clouds come out from behind the clouds. I continue exploring the famous landmarks of the middle of Manhattan down to the Flat Iron Building before returning to the Empire State Building from where I watch the dramatic New York sunset.
