Introduction to today's journey
IN AMONGST the glass towers of Lower Manhattan remains many historical stone buildings from the early days of New York's financial district. These buildings include Wall Street, named after a wooden pallisade running along the northern boundary of the New Ansterdam settlement in the 17th century when Dutch settlers first arrived. In 1789 the now established financial district on Wall Street hosted the first presidential inauguration when George Washington too the oath of office. The stock exchange as we know it today began on Wall Street in 1884. There are many other old stone buildings in Lower Manhattan along with other old structure such as the Brooklyn Bridge built between 1869 and 1883 to link Lower Manhattan across the East River with Brooklyn.
Today's journey takes me into Lower Manhattan, starting in Chinatown before heading down to Wall Street focusing on the historical areas before doing the famous walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
