WITH Kosciuszko conquered, I have now summited the highest points of two continents – Australia and Africa. Admittedly these are the two easiest of the seven summits and whether I would ever be able to conquer any of the others remains to be seen.

Having moved to Australia eighteen years ago I was long overdue for climbing its highest mountain, but that I now have done, having talked a friend into coming with me to attempt the summit.

Kosciuszko is a solemn place of significant importance to the Aboriginal peoples from far and wide. They say these are the sacred grounds where the spirits of wind, water and fire dance to add an element of challenge to the summit pilgrimage to remind us of the significance of this place.

Today the spirit of wind had been dancing.
